The headlines this month highlighted some of the fashion industry’s battles, including a cautionary lesson on how brands are blamed by consumers for counterfeits.

The U.S. Senate Takes Note
Coming off the hearing in the House of Representatives on such legislative initiatives as the Screening Against Fakes in E-commerce (SHOP SAFE) Act and introductions of the Senate’s Stopping All Nefarious Toys in America (SANTA) Act; the Integrity, Notification, and Fairness in Online Retail Marketplaces for Consumers (INFORM Consumers) Act, the Senate further recognizes the plight of counterfeits.

The USPTO has reported a 40% increase in trademark filings over the pandemic, and unfortunately has found many of these filings fraudulent.
