Dear, BPP Community:

In this 24th edition of The Brand Protection Professional, we take a dive into emerging worlds and technologies – such the metaverse; examine how AI threatens yet may offer strategic advantages for brand protection; explore new IP developments, including those relating to digital assets sold through NFTs; and we return to look at how blockchain plays a role in these new worlds. For the latter, it is interesting to reflect on when first explored blockchain in our December 2017 in our cover story The Bottle and the Block Chain, which now seems decades ago given the rapid advancement in this and related technological tools.

In this expansive examination of the new challenges and threats for IP enforcement, we try to break both down into understandable terms for brand protection practitioners and help to determine where limited resources should be applied, given these new territories and fronts for protection of brands and the world’s consumers. A number of the contributors also look at the pending lawsuits that may define the territory lines for IP in the digital world.
